Shuswap Climate Action Society was conceived in the fall of 2019 after a federal election in Canada when climate and the environment were top election issues. That same fall, Greta Thunberg inspired global climate strikes that captured massive media attention. Some concerned citizens in the Salmon Arm area of British Columbia wanted to keep the momentum going, so we came together to begin planning events and projects to keep the issue before the public. Our main goal is to educate and support climate solutions for residents in our community, as well as through collaboration and assistance to other local organisations and businesses, and all levels of government. Since being formed, we have had several initiatives underway and have held many events to raise awareness and encourage greater community resilience.
