Notes From a Burning Paris

From Sarah Wilson Substack: “My apartment is currently 43C. It drops to 38C overnight. I slept in a tent in a forest for a few nights. I tried three nights in the apartment. Each night I would wander the city with my laptop, hopping from a workspace to a hotel foyer to a gym (where I’d take a cold shower in my bra and undies and dry myself with my dress; my soggy outfit would keep me cool for another hour or so). On the baking streets, people are being kind and resigned. We’re sweating on each other, humaning in public spaces, having to hold the lift for stragglers, even as the hot air blasts in. We’re in this together. The feeling is surreal, suspended, but also very real and, yes, so very human.” Read more

📌 Celebrating Dogwood’s Persistent Campaigning for a Better World

From WE-CAN: Last week, Dogwood shared an appeal for donations and some amazing data. The proposed Ksi Lisims LNG terminal, which will pour yet more fuel onto Earth’s burning climate disaster, is 100% American-owned and financed by Wall Street billionaires close to Donald Trump. And guess what? They want a loan from Canada’s Infrastructure Bank. Thanks to Dogwood’s persistent efforts, 13,961 people have taken action to stop LNG handouts to American billionaires; 3,754 people have joined the movement; and 993,506 people have watched Dogwood’s videos explaining the threat of billionaire-backed LNG. Dogwood has 281,000 supporters and 859 volunteers. Yeah, Dogwood! To urge the Canada Infrastructure Bank not to finance Ksi Lisims, click here

📌 Please Wade In! The Tilbury LNG Phase 2 Expansion Project (By July 27)

From Stand.earth: The Tilbury LNG Phase 2 Expansion project has met resistance since the beginning. It would lock in a million tonnes of GHGs a year for decades. It threatens important salmon habitat, and adds polluting ship traffic. FortisBC is planning to add to customers’ energy bills to cover the cost of the project, while pushing communities toward more fossil fuel use. We need you to wade in! We have created a toolkit with suggested points. It may look complicated to engage, but not if you use our point-by-point guide. https://stnd.ly/TilburyToolkit. Electrification, EVs and Heat Pumps: What are British Columbians Thinking?

From EcoAnalytics: Electrification is an increasingly polarizing topic. The province is leading with a provincially mandated Zero Carbon Step Code and energy-efficiency building codes. Others are hesitating. Decarbonization Across the Economy is the ‘Real Prize’ for Canada’s National Electricity Strategy

From The Energy Mix: We’re currently investing $40 billion in capital expenditure for fossil fuels, so what is the right number, as part of a transition? If the number is not zero, we need to have a conversation. Any mention of it is seen as anti-transition. Look at what Norway is doing. They’re expanding production, expanding exports, and Norway is still seen as a poster child for electrification and decarbonization in their domestic industries. Read more
