How Farmers Are Making the Most of Harvesting the Sun

From The Tyee: At the cutting edge of agrivoltaics, a new approach precisely manages light and shadow. Result: bigger crops plus clean electricity. Converting just one per cent of croplands worldwide to agrivoltaics could bring international climate goals within reach. Read more

📌 Tell BC: Fund Local Climate Disaster Prevention

From Sue Big Oil: The province of BC is cutting funding for local climate and wildfire preparedness programs and failing to implement critical flood mitigation strategies — at a time when climate impacts are intensifying. Tell the BC government to spend what is required to keep our communities safe from the increasing threats of climate change. Write here

📌 The June 2026 BC Budget Consultation (By 2 pm June 19)

From WE-CAN: The NDP Budget Committee is accepting written submissions for its 2027 Budget. What should we be asking for? You can make up to three recommendations, each with an explanation. You can participate by using the submission form HERE. We have set up a Google Doc to share ideas and proposals. Click here.

📌 Tell BC Hydro: No Free Ride for LNG! (By June 25)

From Dogwood: BC Hydro is getting grilled on its Integrated Resource Plan at regulatory hearings, and the facts are not pretty. BC Hydro has promised gobs of electricity to AI data centres and foreign-owned LNG terminals, at deeply discounted prices. But that doesn’t leave enough juice for the rest of the province, never mind trying to meet our climate goals. Submit a letter of comment to the BC Utilities Commission demanding that LNG and AI companies pay for all of the new generation and transmission infrastructure they want to use, so that BC Hydro customers are not forced to subsidize them on our bills. Submit your comment here.

Stop PM Carney from Gutting Canada’s Environmental Laws

From Wilderness Committee: Prime Minister Mark Carney’s latest attack on environmental safeguards and public accountability proposes dismantling review processes, reducing opportunities for public engagement, and rushing timelines for fossil fuel pipelines, LNG terminals and mines. Former federal Liberal environment minister Steven Guilbeault described the policy as “worse than Harper-era cuts.” Send a message to the federal government demanding they reject these dangerous rollbacks. Tuesday June 23, 6 pm Where’s the Bus? The Rural Transportation Crisis in BC

From the Public Transit Alliance: Where’s the bus? For many people, it’s hard to get around BC by public transit. There’s a bewildering mix of public, private, health and community services, no integrated timetable, and often no service at all. Join us as we ask the question: “What’s to be done?”, with first-hand accounts from Creston, Kitimat, Gabriola, Port Alberni, and Sicamous, Jeremy Valeriote MLA, and experts who have spent years focused on the challenge. Thursday June 25, All Together Now: A People’s MoU Day of Action

From 350.org: Ahead of the July 1st deadline for another West Coast pipeline, we need to demonstrate public opposition to new pipelines and fossil fuel expansion. We need to organize coordinated action across the country, and force the media and politicians to notice. We need to stop the de-regulation agenda, win a windfall profits tax, accelerate a renewable energy transition, and widen wedges in the Liberal party around climate issues, to build pressure within caucus to push Carney in a different direction. World’s Largest Banks Pledged $906bn to Fossil Fuel Companies in ‘Unfathomable’ Increase in 2025

From The Guardian: JPMorgan Chase leads 65 banks making decisions incompatible with restraining rising temperatures, researchers say. Avoiding the 1.5C threshold would require the near elimination of planet-heating emissions from fossil fuel production. Since the Paris agreement, the world’s largest banks have funnelled $8.7tn to the fossil fuel industry to dig and drill for more coal, oil and gas. Read more

Could B.C.’s LNG Boom Squeeze the Province’s Natural Gas Supply?

From The Narwhal: As heat waves increase electricity demand, Energy Minister Adrian Dix says Vancouver Island’s gas supply is being squeezed by an LNG plant under construction. BC Hydro says it needs natural gas power plants to keep operating to ensure the province has enough power. Island Generation, a natural gas plant in Campbell River, B.C., was supposed to be decommissioned but BC Hydro is seeking to renew its contract. Jeremy Valeriote MLA noted BC Hydro is supposed to be phasing out fossil fuel electricity generation, not seeking new contracts with gas-fired plants. Read more

Welcome to the Climate Paradox

From National Observer: Canadians are often accused of being conflicted about climate change. The latest roundup of public opinion research suggests something more complex: we are conflicted about our own conflicts. A survey by Spark Advocacy found that 46% of Canadians under 30 say that climate change is a hoax. Only one-third of the Conservative Party of Canada’s base think that climate change requires immediate action. About 70% of the rest of Canadians say it’s an “urgent problem that requires immediate action.” Read more
