Current Initiatives - We're Busy Little Bees Here at WE-CAN!

Update as of December 2025

  • There are 275 Member Groups in our Network.
  • Our Board meets twice a month.
  • Our Executive Team meets weekly to keep everything on track.
  • We are all volunteers, except for Chelie-Renee Elsom, our Operations and Strategy Consultant, who keeps our platforms and communications running smoothly and ensures we don’t drop any balls.

Provincial Team

The Cimate Crisis
  •  We have a meeting with the Climate Action Secretariat every two months to exchange views and share information
  • We led a delegation on LNG to 19 NDP MLAs in the Legislature
  • We coordinated various submissions to the independent CleanBC review this summer.
  • We launched a Climate Book Club.
  • We are exploring options for engagement with BC Hydro and the BC Utilities Commission.
  • We are leading an initiative to set up a Public Transit Alliance of BC, uniting BC’s many transit advocacy groups.

Local Government Team

  • We are preparing a 2026 Local Government Elections campaign to elect climate champions.

Climate Action Provinical Assembly (CAPA) Team

  • In mid-September, we co-organized two gatherings to help member groups engage with the government’s Infrastructure Act survey.
  • We applied for a PICS grant to run a major public event in Spring 2026.

Members Team

WE-CAN Climate Action
  • We are seeking improved ways to build stronger relationships with our 275 Member Groups.
  • Committed to creating a Member Stewardship Program for 2026
  • We are exploring the potential to start a ‘WE-CAN for businesses’ initiative.
  • Our Story Tellers write Impact stories about our Member Groups, which run in our newsletter and are showcased on our website.

Communications Team

  • Our Climate News Round-Up goes out to ~2,400 people every week, keeping our Member Groups and readers up to date with everything that’s going on.
  • We are continually improving our website and providing resources and networking opportunities to our member groups
  • We are working to improve our social media engagement.
  • This summer, we assisted our Social Media Action for Climate Knowledge (SMACK) intern, Francia Inda, to help ten member groups with their social media development, with financial support from the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions

Indigenous Engagement Team

  • We hold regular Lunch ‘n Learn events with Indigenous climate leaders to profile their work.
  • We are working on the First Nations Climate Action Data Quilt, showcasing initiatives from 60 First Nations, with encouragement from the Union of BC Indian Chiefs and the BC Assembly of First Nations.
  • We host a regular ‘Friday Night is Movie Night’ to share Canadian movies on truth and reconciliation.

JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Team
