Climate Action Provincial Assembly (CAPA) Planning Team
Our Climate Action Provincial Assemblies (CAPAs) bring climate activists and advocates from climate groups across the province together to connect, strategize, and collaborate. We plan, organize, and deliver the CAPAs.

Communications Team
We work on WE-CAN’s communications, including our weekly Climate News Roundup (sign up here), website, and social media. Do you have an interest or expertise in digital communications? If so, we’d love to have you join the team.

Fundraising Team
Our Fundraising Team works to increase personal donations and grants to enable WE-CAN to continue and expand its work to unite, support, amplify, and promote climate action initiatives across BC. Do you have fundraising interests or expertise that could help us?

Indigenous Engagement Team
The Indigenous Engagement Team works to:
- Bring an Indigenous perspective and seek Indigenous engagement to all WE-CAN
activities - Build trusting relationships with First Nations Leadership and with the leaders of
Indigenous climate initiatives across BC. - Support and advance understanding of Indigenous climate actions and initiatives across
BC.
Our Current Projects:
1. With encouragement from the BC Assembly of First Nations, we launched the
Indigenous Climate Action Data Quilt Project to make every Indigenous climate initiative
In BC.
2. We also host an ongoing webinar series featuring Indigenous perspectives on climate
action.

JEDI Team
The JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) Team’s objective is to make WE-CAN a
welcoming place for those who have been historically under-represented in the climate
movement and those who have suffered historic injustices, including Indigenous Peoples,
People of Color, low-income families, and other historically marginalized groups. We have been involved in a range of activities, including:
1. Conducting research to understand where WE-CAN’s culture does not fully align with its stated goals, values, and intentions
2. Recommending actions to bring WE-CAN into better alignment with its goals, values,
and intentions
3. Participating in our PICS hiring process to ensure it was an inclusive process
4. Engaging a consultant to help the board formulate a Team Agreement outlining the
behaviours, structures, norms, and actions members need to have in place to feel heard
and appreciated for what they are bringing to the group
5. Ensuring the Team Agreement is kept visible, that norms are adhered to and/or changed
as necessary to maintain good working relationships

Local Government Team
Terms of Reference
We work to promote climate action at the municipal, rural, and regional level. Through our Climate Champions map, we supported 146 climate champions to be elected to regional and municipal councils and school boards in October 2022. We are continuing to support the elected champions in their new positions as well as local climate groups pushing for municipal and regional action.

Members Team
We work to strengthen relationships between WE-CAN’s climate action member-groups, and to seek new member groups, especially youth, business, labour, university, conservation, social justice and religious groups. We are working to develop an interactive map of all of our member groups in BC.

Provincial Team
Our Provincial Team keeps on top of and supports climate action priorities at the Provincial level, seeks and holds meetings with Ministers, MLAs, and Provincial government staff to discuss policy, and, during a Provincial election, works to help the public identify MLAs that are climate champions
