Wachiay is a cornerstone of support and connection, providing an extensive range of educational, recreational, social, and cultural projects to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the Comox Valley and surrounding communities. With nearly 40 staff, more than 50 programs and services, built over decades of showing up for community. Within our newly created Environmental Program, we will be launching a climate action project in Fall 2026. Our pilot project will bring together youth ages 15-21 who are interested in working in the environmental field/climate action space. We hope to expand to a larger audience in Spring 2027, after the pilot ends. We will be offered a land-based self-exploration to support participants in finding their unique path in this space. This project will be grounded in ceremony, led by Indigenous facilitators, with counselling support. The medicine wheel teachings will be at the heart of this work. We will bring participants together to take part in land-based ceremonies and teachings. Participants will then bring what they’ve learned to the larger community, through volunteer placements with local environmental initiatives.
