The BC Climate Emergency Campaign 2025 Progress Report. We urge you to meet with your MLA.
In January, the BC Climate Emergency Campaign released its 2025 Climate Progress Report, which gave the BC government 8 “FAILS” for the 10 urgent actions it should be doing to tackle the climate crisis, and 2 “Minor Progress” scores.
And this at a time when BC’s forests are burning every summer, and the warnings of global climate catastrophe grow stronger every day.

We MUST urge our BC government to do better. They are acting as if nobody cares, and the laws of climate physics have taken a strange break from reality. Neither is remotely true. The Report shows how BC can find the money to tackle the crisis.
If you were unable to attend the CAPA we ran last week about the Progress Report, here is the video of the amazing presentation Tracey Saxby made, spelling out in dramatic detail what needs to be done.
The #1 thing we need now is, please, to contact your MLA and ask for a meeting. We will be so letting our children and grandchildren down if we don’t do whatever we can to stress the urgency of what’s happening.
You can find your MLA and their email and phone contact here, where you can put your name down to say, “YES, I’ll ask for a meeting.” If someone else has indicated they’re going to meet, and you don’t know who they are, send us an email, and we’ll put you in touch. guy@westcoastclimateaction.ca.

Tips for When You Meet Your MLA
- The Legislature takes a 2-week break in March, so if you ask to meet between March 16th and 27th, there’s a stronger chance you’ll get a yes.
- When you send your email, or phone call, be sure to say that you are one of their constituents, and that three of you want to meet. Find two other people!
- Take a printed copy of the Climate Emergency Report to give to him or her. Add your name and address to this sheet, and Tracey will mail you a copy.
- Google your MLA in advance, to learn about their personal interests. Look for ways to share common interests – grandchildren, fishing, hiking.
- Choose the 3 key messages you want to convey.
- If you or your family or friends have personal experience of living through a climate disaster, be sure to tell them about it.
- Don’t expect them to say “Yes, I agree. I’ll do everything I can to change our government’s policies.” We suspect that many MLAs, especially the women, will agree with you, but they’ll not say so in public in case someone makes a media sensation out of it, causing them to lose their status within the party.
- If your MLA is a Conservative, focus on the climate distresses, the financial cost to the province, and how climate solutions such as heat pumps, public transit and active transportation will reduce costs and make life more affordable.
- If you want more guidance, you can find it here, in spades!
When you have met, can you be sure that one of you goes back to the sign-up sheet, and reports how it went in Column J, so that we can share how things went?
A Big Thank You!
