CAPA: Social Media Action for Climate Knowledge (SMACK!)
(Please note the new date: May 15!)
Dear fellow climate activists, WE-CAN members and friends,
Please join us for our next Climate Action Provincial Assembly (CAPA) on Thursday, May 15th at 5:30 pm, when we will explore the role of social media in spreading climate nonsense, disinformation and denial, especially on TikTok and Instagram. They are spreading like wildfire, causing people to ignore the science and believe the nonsciense. We need to push back.
A strong social media presence engages communities, mobilizes supporters, and influences public discourse, helping to drive political action on critical climate issues. We need it!
Come to our CAPA, and talk SMACK with us! Everyone aged 12 to 102 is welcome. We can all learn!
CAPA Registration
At the CAPA we will introduce our new SMACK Project - that stands for Social Media Action for Climate Knowledge, and our new summer intern, Francia Inda, will be working with ten of our Member Groups to build a stronger social media presence. We have 10 groups signed up! You will hear from social media climate champions Hazel Thayer (hazelisonline/) and Molly Henderson from Dogwood, and have the opportunity to share your social media successes and challenges. And then we will view the finalists in our Climate SMACK-Down Video Contest, and then - Yea! choose the winners, who will receive $500 and $250 (runner-up) cash prizes.
